ACSI Seminar

What is the main responsibility of a teacher within the class, especially in Christian schools or education? Now that’s the main question laid in Foundation and Philosophy of Christian School Education seminar held in IPEKA INTERNATIONAL CHRISTIAN SCHOOL (IICS) Grand Chapel on April 9-10, 2012. The keynote speaker of the seminar was Mr. Derek J. Keenan, EdD, who delivered the message about the comparison between the world’s philosophies and the truth of God’s words toward Christian education.

Mr. Derek J. Keenan is currently the Vice President of Academic Affairs of Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) at the head office of ACSI in Colorado Springs, United States.

According to Mr. Derek Keenan, the foundation of Christian schools or education is God, truth, and man. Meanwhile, the main purpose of Christian education is to lead the students to the Word of God. Christian teachers have a mandate to spread the truth and to be a role model for the students to imitate.

The seminar was attended by IICS Elementary, Junior, and High School teachers. Hopefully the teachers can spread the Word of God to their students by being a role model, through classroom interaction, and daily lives. May the students would later live according to His will. That is the main responsibility of a teacher in Christian schools and education. And that’s love. Learning to love the students as God wants us or the teachers to love is a lifelong learning process.

“…in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”
(Colossians 2:3, NKJV)
