• What is geotagging?
• What are some popular location aware services?
• How can we use social media wisely?
• What are some interesting photo applications?
Grade 7 students were recently challenged to contemplate the above questions when they attended their annual their field trip on last February 6, 2014.
The first destination was @America, a cutting-edge, 21st-century cultural center where you can explore and experience the United States, and express your thoughts and ideas about America. The @america facility is a pioneering initiative from the U.S. Department of State. It is outfitted with state-of-the-art technology that offers interactive engagement with varied and edgy content-rich activities. Some of the state-of-the art technology which students were able to access on site were:
• 3D Printer
• Goggle map with 7 connected large screens with 3D mouse
The trip continued with a fun-filled adventure to Dufan where students applied theories learnt in their physics class. Some of the rides students were asked to visit were the roller coaster where they were asked to reflect on the speed of the ride, the Hysteriaâ€â€where they were able to analyze how pneumatics and hydraulics workâ€â€and the Wave Swinger and Tornadoâ€â€which required them to reflect on rotation and revolution.
All agreed that it was indeed an exciting and thrilling experience to be able to relate text book theories to everyday life experiences.
