This past September marked the annual Y9 camping trip, a time designed to refill and refresh our student body. While there are planned outdoor activities, there is also time set aside for spiritual pursuits as well.
We stayed at the Highland Park Resort and Hotel in Bogor, a very well appointed facility with great food! It was a fun environment and we stayed in rooms shaped like American Indian style Tee-Pees, with air conditioning and showers!
At IPEKA IICS we hold ourselves to a standard of outcomes that we incorporate into daily learning activities. We refer to these as Expected Schoolwide Learning Results (ESLR’s). They are: 1) Faithful Followers of Christ; 2 ) Independent Critical Thinkers; 3) Effective English Communicators; 4) Prepared Members of the Global Community; and, 5) Academically Prepared as Lifelong Learners.
Not every lesson or activity will include all five at the same time, but our goal is to offer a well-rounded program that fulfills these emphases in various ways throughout the year.
At camp we enjoyed times of spiritual enrichment and a lot of outdoor, team building activities, through which the students were able to earn pints for their respective Houses, as a part of our Junior High House Program. They learned to work together, solving problems to achieve the goals of the games being played.
There was a talent competition between the Houses, allowing the students to display their many God-given talents – and, there are many! Not only was this an opportunity to hone those skills, but to glorify God in their display.
Many of the students, as well as members of the teaching staff, commented that this was one of the best retreats they have ever attended! Everyone is excited about, and looking forward to next year’s Y9 retreat!
