“give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” – 1 Thes 5:18 (NIV)
God allows me to have a kind of ‘thorn in the flesh’, as St Paul put it in his letter. I am full of wonder at how He gave me the opportunities to reflect, reshape, and rearrange my priorities towards life. As God has been very kind to me so far, I also believe that whatever happens in my life is allowed by God to happen for a reason that may still be a mystery to me. All I have to do is to trust Him, to guide me through the alley of recovery as He sees fit, as it seems that this is the alley God provides for me. This effort can only be done by the help of all the colleagues who may remember me in their prayers. I am forever grateful.
My life as a daughter, a wife, a mother, and a teacher certainly has a range of colours, both dark shades and light. I am sure all of us can look back on our lives and see how goodness of God has accompanied us all along.
By God’s grace, I become a teacher in this school. Never have I dreamed nor wished to become one when I was young. I am sure there are many of my colleagues who share this experience as well. Together with my colleagues, here we are, working in a school and taking care of senior high students.
Even after almost 20 years working in this institution, I am certain that my colleagues and I do not fall into the routine. New students bring new challenges as each batch of students are formed by their past experiences and upbringing, making them distinct from every previous batch. However, our goal remains the same: to make them reach the standard imposed by the curriculum the school chooses, and to prepare them to be mature and responsible adults. This becomes our huge task: to bridge the gap between the coloured past and the prepared future.
Working with the students all these years became such a blessing to me. Interacting with these young minds can really be invigorating and uplifting for one’s own mind. Transferring the knowledge to these students can be a humbling experience since they bring with them real problems they face in their daily lives, and challenge us to show how the knowledge is relevant to them. Never do I forget that these are young minds who long for good role models for them to imitate and/or be inspired by, apart from their parents. These activities can really shape you to stay young, full of hope, and have a positive attitude towards life.
I am really thankful for what God has allowed me to experience. I really hope that my story may help you to always feel encouraged by how God really leads our life in whatever situation we are in.
God bless us.
