Praise the Lord. Patrick Bryan Nugraha obtained a bronze medal for Physics in the National Science Olympiad 2017, which took place on 02 to 08 July 2017 in Pekanbaru, Riau. This is his story of being a part of the competition:
My name is Patrick Bryan Nugraha and this is my story of being a part of the 2017 National Science Olympiad (OSN) in Pekanbaru, Riau. The National Science Olympiad is an annual event, held by the government, to promote the love for science among Indonesia’s youth.
Every year, thousands of students from all corners of Indonesia gather in one place to showcase their skills and knowledge on their respective subject. A total of nine subjects will be up for grabs – mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry, earth science, geography, economy, astronomy, and informatics. Each subject pose their own sets of difficulties and tricks, guaranteed to challenge those who are lucky enough to have joined.
For me personally, 2017 will be my 4th time participating representing Jakarta in this event- as well my last. I have had my own fair share of ridiculously hard questions along the years and this year is no different. However, the competition itself is just a fraction of the whole event.
There are “rest” days, where participants are brought to do recreational activities and visit places as if we were tourists. Students from different provinces are able to bond, sharing their different cultures, views, and experiences with one another. We came to found new friends and acquaintances. In the end, medals may be given to the winners but nobody go home as a loser.
