Live-in trip is a yearly program for year 12 IICS students. This year, 67 students and 7 teachers visited Cuntel village in Middle Java. Our theme is Be the Light. We took train from Jakarta to Semarang and continued with a bus ride to Kopeng. At Kopeng, we were transferred to vans, known as angkot, that finally took us to Cuntel village at mount Merbabu. Upon arrival we gathered with local residents at church. Several students were assigned to lead the service on that day. Mr. Iskak, the local pastor, gave a welcome speech and delivered a sermon. Students were then divided into groups and assigned to stay with local families.
On the second day, students were expected to join the house owners to do daily activities like farming, gardening, tending to livestock, and collecting grass to feed the cattle. In the afternoon, several students prepared sembako (life necessities) to be distributed to Cuntel villagers on the following day. Each sembako package consists of 5 kg of rice, 1 kg of cooking oil, 1 kg of sugar, 2 boxes of tea, and 3 packs of noodles. This donation was voluntarily funded by the students.
On their last day at Cuntel, students distributed sembako packages to the villagers. 75 packages were distributed to 75 local families. Live-in program was concluded at 12:30 pm with a chapel service. This time Mr. Joko, a young pastor who has been serving the local church for two years, delivered a sermon about being the light. Students then left the village for Jakarta by train. Many of them felt that the trip was too short and wished if they could stay longer.
